FROM HARVARD UNIVERSITY'S AMBITION TO A HIGHER CALLING Relationship with Christ
Both ignoring God’s call and responding through self-reliance reveal a deeper issue: our innate tendency to worship self rather than Christ. These responses reflect a heart centered on “I”—where self-sufficiency, control, and personal ambitions take precedence over God’s sovereignty and purpose. Ignoring His call allows us to hold onto our own plans and avoid the vulnerability that true reliance on God entails. Similarly, attempting to fulfill the call in our own strength stems from a desire to prove ourselves, to achieve, and to secure our worth apart from Him.
